BBC News: New Zealand PM Visits UK

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern visited the UK on Monday, her first bilateral trip since taking office in 2017. She met with British Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth II.

Ardern’s visit comes amid heightened tensions between London and Wellington over a range of issues, including trade and security. The two countries have been in a series of tense exchanges since Ardern took office last year, with London accusing Wellington of meddling in its Brexit negotiations.

On Monday, Ardern said that she hoped her trip would help to “put some more distance” between the two countries. “We don’t always see eye-to-eye on things,” she said, but added that they were able to talk about “the importance of good relationships between our two countries”.

The BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg reports.
